The Server Certificate Service supplies the Transport Layer Security (TLS) certificates needed to deploy the secure versions of various internet protocols. 

Certificates are available to recognised representatives of University institutions operating a secure server.

Features and Benefits

Features & Benefits 

UIS can obtain certificates for servers with host names ending, and for servers with names in other University-owned domains. A variety of certificate types is available, including multi-domain Organisation Validated, Extended Validation and Wildcard certificates.

The TLS service is

  • fast: much quicker and easier than going direct to a commercial Certification Authority
  • cost-effective: reduced cost/no cost for certificates (see Charging Model )
  • easy to access: request for certificate can be initiated and tracked online
  • supported locally by UIS experts

How Much Does It Cost?

How much does it cost? 

Each certificate issued costs the University in staff time and out-of-door costs.

For standard 'Organisation Validated' and for 'Extended Validation' certificates, the cost is absorbed by UIS.

Wildcard certificates are chargeable on a cost recovery basis.
