The Assistive Technology Service has now been transferred to the Disability Resource centre.

The Assistive Technology service provides support to University staff and students with disabilities, specific requirements or other health issues through the use of technology. A wide range of software, hardware, training, advice and support is available.

  • accessible support and guidance for users with various postural and upper limb issues, including free workstation assessments
  • a range of specialist hardware and software available for short-term loan to assist users to identify appropriate adaptive technology
  • provision of free one-to-one and group training for a range of assistive technology software. For example, Dragon NaturallySpeaking, TextHelp, Read & Write, MindView, AudioNoteTaker.
  • provision of bespoke seminars focusing on workstation ergonomics, strategies for healthy productive computing and assistive software
  • provision of alternative format documents including large print, braille and audio

How much does it cost? 

Use of the Assistive Technology service, equipment loan, advice, guidance, and training is available free of charge.

The provision of braille documents may be chargeable. Please email for further information.

Depending on the availability of the Assistive Technology specialist, the support needed and any booking procedures that may be necessary.  

Emails are forwarded to the Assistive Technology specialist regularly throughout the working day.

The service is available during normal working hours:

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 9am – 5pm

Wednesday: 10am – 5pm

Friday: 9am – 4.30pm

(except UK Bank Holidays and University closures)
