The Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) co-ordinates the response to security incidents for the University of Cambridge. CSIRT is the contact point for anyone in the University who needs help and advice with a compromised device or the misuse of IT facilities. It liaises between departments, Colleges, the UIS and, where necessary, external organisations such as Janet or other UK Universities.

  • monitor IT infrastucture
  • detect security incidents or problems
  • provide specialist advice and support to individuals and Institutions in the area of IT security and misuse
  • improve IT security across the collegiate University
  • apply and where necessary, enforce, University policy in IT security

CamCERT is a free service provided to all staff and students at the University (although it may be delegated to local IT staff if appropriate).

The support team aims to deal with issues and answer queries as quickly as possible after initial contact has been made. Lead time may depend on the level of seriousness of the emergency.
