Your Common Registration Scheme identifier (CRSid) is your personal username that is used widely throughout the University. This consists of your initials, as disclosed to the University Information Services (UIS) at the point of first registration, and a number. Your CRSid is personal and unique. It is deactivated when you leave the University and, wherever possible, reactivated when you return.

This is your username and identifier which is used widely across University IT systems including:

  • Email: Your CRSid forms the first part of your Cambridge University email address eg
  • Raven: You will use your CRSid and UIS Password to authenticate yourself to many University online services, for example CamSIS, the Lookup Directory and Moodle
  • Desktop Services: Your personal filestore and managed desktop

Provided free of charge to anyone entitled to hold UIS accounts.

How Do I Get This Service?

How do I get this service? 

CRSids are created or re-activated automatically when:

  • Your institution requests one on your behalf
  • Your details are provided automatically to UIS by the student records system (CamSIS)
  • Your details are provided automatically to UIS by the University's HR system (CHRIS)
  • You request UIS accounts directly by returning the paper form available for download to the UIS Service Desk.

How Quickly Can I Get This Service?

How quickly can I get this service? 

CRSids are normally allocated and issued within one working day of a request.

For University staff and visitors they, and any associated UIS services, will be activated no earlier than 7 days before your anticipated date of arrival. If a College or Department has arranged for your UIS accounts to be created before your arrival, you can find out your CRSid and address and collect the passwords for your accounts. You will need a registration code from your Institution.

For students, they may be allocated up to 6 months in advance of your course start date, and may be activated up to 4 months before your course begins.
